Illustration for The Washington Post for an article about the changing relationship between pregnancy and moterhood for Olympic athletes.
At least a dozen moms competed for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics. Countless other Olympian moms competed in Tokyo for other nations. They faced unique challenges: the emotional toll of training away from home for weeks at a time, the balancing act of maintaining a rigorous schedule and their responsibilities as a mother, the physical toll that having a baby brings, and the battle with corporate America to regard motherhood as more than a liability for a woman’s career.
I was asked to create a hero illustration composed by elements that could be reused as spot illustrations and that represented the different stages (struggles and victories) of Olympic moms or moms-to-be.
